Jeffress Speaks Truth, Well Sorta

“Do we want a candidate who is a good, moral person, or do we want a candidate who is a born-again follower of the Lord Jesus Christ?” This is a question posed by Dr. Robert Jeffress of the First Baptist Church in his introduction of Rick Perry at the Values Voter Summit.

Wow! I always thought these two points were supposed to be one and the same. I do find it amusing that a supposed follower and teacher of JC finds these two ideas mutually exclusive. Good and moral versus born-again follower? Hmmm. I’ll credit it him for at least being truthful because most of the time these two ideas are exclusive from one another and surely are in the case of Rick Perry.

I’m not a religious person and it is narrow minded zealotry displayed by people like Robert Jeffress that started me down my path of escaping religion when I was a boy. I guess what shocks me the most about people like Jeffress is that they can still shock me. Then again blind narrow-minded hypocrisy never gets less shocking.
