Cash Out
One of my biggest pet peeves lately is the dwindling number of people who use cash. Granted, I understand the ease of sliding the card. You don’t have to worry about carrying around all of those pesky pieces of paper that get wrinkled and come in different denominations. I’m guilty of it as well. I agree that if you are making a major purchase, hell, a medium purchase, something over 30 dollars, lets say over 20 dollars, plastic may be the way to go. But when I see someone paying for a candy bar or a soda with plastic it makes me nauseous. Jesus! A soda! Carry 5 singles in you wallet!
Using plastic over paper causes larger problems. First among these is budgeting. It’s a lot easier to slide that card, be it debit or credit. There’s no numeric value in your mind when you slide but when you have to fork over 20 of the 40 bucks in your wallet it’s noticeable. Second it hurts businesses. Businesses have to pay a fee every time you slide that card whether it’s a bank card or credit card. If it’s a huge corporation like Wal-Mart, fuck them, slide that card for a buck, but if it’s a local business it’s your civic duty to pay cash. Regardless, small or large business, the ones that benefit the most are credit card companies and I will say very grandly, “FUCK THEM!” Every time you slide that card, you give something to them, them that will bump up your interest rate without notice or reason. Them that will change you balance due date without notice just to make a few bucks. They don’t like you, to them you're just a sucker. So the lesson for the day is visit your bank, withdraw some cash. It’s a very minor way of making the world a better place and every bit helps.?
