The First Read-Through
I’ve found that it’s always a good idea to put some time between writing a first draft and reading a first draft. Hell, there have been occasions when the time between was so great that I actually liked what I was reading, having become so distant from the work that it actually felt like I was reading something someone else wrote.
So, after giving my novel about a month and a half to settle I finally finished the first read-through today and I have to admit it was a lot better than I expected. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit it but I actually laughed out loud several times. That’s not to say that there isn’t still some serious work ahead, but I’m meeting with the first editor this weekend and hopefully she has some positive things to say such as, “You can work with this, no need to chuck it into the trash and set it on fire.”
It looks like it’s going to take a bit longer to actually put out the book then I originally and ambitiously stated. For those that don’t remember I predicted September or October. Instead, it looks more like a December or 2013 release. I do have a tentative title, Spirits and Spunk, and while I sort of like the title, I hope by the time it’s ready to go to the “presses,” I will have come up with something better.
Anyhow, that’s all for now.
